Company overview
Baxalta (acquired by Shire) was a biopharmaceutical company, employing more than 16 thousand employees worldwide. It specialized in protein replacement and precision medicines for rare diseases and other severe conditions. Currently, it is a subsidiary of Takeda Pharmaceutical Company.
Summary
Baxalta needed to notify staff about IT outages and maintenance. They adopted a targeted alert system integrated with Active Directory to deliver real-time notifications only to the affected departments. With this solution, they minimized disruption, improved response times, and ensured reliable communication of critical IT events across the organization.

Challenge
As many other companies, Baxalta needed a reliable way to inform its employees about the key system outages and downtimes.
Solution
The DeskAlerts system was implemented by the IT department, with notification agents installed for more than 3,000 employees in Austria.
Among the features of DeskAlerts software, Baxalta representatives highlighted:
- The ease of use
- A user-friendly interface that helps save time on employee training
- The overall system's flexibility.
With granular role-based access for system users, it is simple to make sure that any content publisher will only have access to the features that are potentially useful to them. Additionally, Active Directory integration enables targeting notifications only to the departments responsible for taking actions in any specific case.
Result
With DeskAlerts notifications in place, Baxalta now has a robust channel for communicating critical information to its employees. The IT department uses it to deliver targeted notifications about system outages, recoveries, and planned downtimes, making sure that messages will only be delivered to departments affected.

Currently, we only use it in Austria. This week we have an appointment with colleagues in Switzerland, then we will create internal policies locked down to their part of our Active Directory domain.
