How IT Professionals Guide Their Organizations
Caroline Duncan : Sep 25, 2017 12:25:32 PM
Having the right people for the job is important in every aspect of business. So it goes without saying that if you want to have your IT systems running at the optimum, you should engage IT professionals to do it for you. Not only can they help out with the day-to-day running of your IT systems, but they can also help to guide the organization.

IT plays such a central role in business operations, it really shouldn’t be an afterthought when it comes to your strategy and planning. By employing highly trained IT professionals - and including them in business planning decisions - you can be guided by their expertise.
Some of the ways IT professionals can help guide the organization include:
1. A thorough understanding of technology
IT professionals who keep their skills and knowledge current know about advances in technology that can present a solution to help your company achieve its goals. Likewise, they know what limitations are posed by your existing infrastructure that can impede projects.
2. Innovation
When it comes to designing custom solutions to your unique IT problems, these professionals can think outside the square and offer innovative ideas. They are able to offer a unique perspective that people without an IT background may not be able to see.
3. Developing strategies
IT professionals can help shape strategies guiding the direction of your business, including a roadmap of how to get there. This incudes assessing information technology needs – auditing what your company has now and what it will need in the short, medium and long-term futures. They will periodically review these strategies to ensure they are meeting goals and determine if they need to be revised to fill any gaps.
4. Developing policies and procedures
Every organization should have a range of policies and procedures when it comes to different aspects of information technology. From acceptable use, to network security through to back up procedures, an IT professional can guide an organization to incorporate best practice solutions that fit with the business’ unique environment and needs.
5. Subject matter experts
Within an organization there are professionals that can be relied upon to provide advice and guidance on a range of topics that they are experts in. This holds especially true for IT professionals –they are uniquely placed to help solve problems large and small on IT matters every single day.
6. Knowledge and training
IT professionals can also share their knowledge by developing step-by-step guides to help staff understand how to use different hardware and software applications. By having an overarching view of what the organization needs, they can also advise on and coordinate any training that may be needed.
7. Keeping the organization secure
IT professionals play an important role in ensuring a company’s IT security. From understanding best practices in encryption they also know where the potential weaknesses are and put systems in place to safeguard. This includes firewalls, continuous system monitoring, keeping systems patched and up-to-date and educating others about security threats.
